aspen is everything you've
heard. glitzy, flashy, the home of "the beautiful people".
but more than that it's a really great place to ski. if you've
reached that point in life where the bumps are too hard on your
knees, when you want to stop when you want to, when what
you really want is to ski something steep enough to be exhilarating
yet not intimidating, when you want it to be smooth enough to
make just the turn you wanted and you don't care if someone saw
that "perfect turn", it was enough that you just did
it. then you've come home.
ajax mountain, as the locals call the mountain above the town, is a revelation. gone are the cliches of "poseurs" and "hanger's on", this is a real skiers mountain that will keep you entertained for day after day. when and if you tire of this gem you can always take the shuttle bus to one of the other three mountains that the aspen ski pass includes - buttermilk, highlands and snowmass. you will not be bored!
the town its self has everything a big city has without losing the mountain village charm. from the fabulous food of the motherlode to quick and tasty burger bars.
try one week here and a week in crested butte which, as the crow flies, is only 20 miles across the elk mountains. a perfect blend.
