mt. el'brus lies in the caucasus mountains at the edge of europe and asia. the location is between the black sea and the great inland sea of the caspian. The proximity of the black sea ensures that the region is blessed with huge snowfalls during the winter months.

day 1
arrive in moscow. a member of
lenalp tours staff will meet you at the airport. this representative
will answer questions, brief you on the immediate arrangements,
and escort you to the hotel. (flights to and from Moscow and the
hotel are not included but can be arranged by us, see below).
day 2
after breakfast transfer to vnukovo
airport. fly moscow - mineral'ny ye vody (price of flight isnot
included). a lenalp tours guide will be waiting for you at the
airport. bus trip to the baksan valley (4,5h.). check into the
hotel. dinner.
day 3
acclimatisation and downhill skiing
on cheget (3050m). two chairlifts up to the top. we will have
a panoramic view of the baksan valley and the twin summits of
mt.el'brus. hotel.
day 4
drive by bus to the base camp
djantugan in the adyl-su valley (2200m). climb to djankuat glacier
and ski down to the base camp. transfer to the hotel.
day 5
drive to the cable-car station
azau. lift to el'brus to karabashi station (3750m). there is a
majestic panorama of the central caucasus from this point. ascent
by ski to pastukhov rocks (4800m). descend by ski to azau. hotel.
day 6
preparation for climb on mt.el'brus.

day 7
lift to karabashi station. check
into the barrels hut (3750m). overnight in the hut.
day 8
today we will make an attempt
to reach the summit of mt.el'brus. it will take us 10-12 hours
after an early start before dawn. descent to the barrels hut.
overnight in the hut.
day 9
an extra day to be used as necessary
in case of inclement weather.
day 10
lift to the el'brus slopes. drive
by snow-cat to the pastukhov rocks (4800m). descend to azau via
ekho voiny pass (about 20 km). return to the hotel.
day 11
drive to mineral'ny ye vody. fly
to moscow.
arrive in moscow. a representative of lenalp tours will meet you
at the vnukovo airport and escort you to the sheremetyevo 2 (international)
airport. depart for your home destination. you can extend your
stay in moscow if you prefer. (If you have no immediate connecting
flight and need hotel accommodation in Moscow we can arrange this
for you)

the programme offers a
unique itinerary and long descents in ungroomed
snow. djankuat glacier and the snowy slopes
of elbrus are true backcountry and exciting ski-descents. average
grade of steepness is only about 15-20 degrees and glaciers are
covered with snow. the final part of this trip is a climb with
skins on mt. elbrus and a descent from the top on skis. this descent
is about 25 km with an altitude change of 2500m. (approx 8,250
feet)
